原文： 那两天里，李妈对鸿渐言出令从。柔嘉想自己把方家种种全跟姑母谈过，幸亏她没漏出来，否则鸿渐更要吵得天翻地覆，他最要面子。（钱钟书 - 围城 ） 翻译关键词：言出令从，漏出来（let out），raise cain（天翻地覆），要面子 译文： For the next couple of days, Mama Li obeyed Hungchien’s every word. 【翻译笔记】《围城》英译选句 - “想到你”还是“想你”？

【翻译笔记】《围城》英译选句 - 乌烟瘴气
在在英国politician和statesman都是“政治家”，但略有不同：politician着重在于才能，statesman着重在权势。 （3）在美国politician通常是“政客”，往往有“政治阴谋家”的意味。但在“政界人物”中间用politician往往指“（从事于政治而并非从事于其他事的）政治家”。 （4）在美国statesman是“（有翻译才能，有远见，为国为民的）政治家”。但有时指任何“政界人物”。 bound to 在bound后面接不定式的用法，通常可作“一定将，必然的；注定了的”解，如： It is bound to rain. 肯定会下雨。 He’s bound to refuse. 他一定会拒绝。 乌烟瘴气 比喻空气污浊、秩序混乱或社会黑暗、风气不正。除了译文中的heavy pollution外，我们还可根据各种语境用不同的方式表达出来。如“搞得乌烟瘴气”就可以有以下的表达方式：create a bad atmosphere; foul things up; make a mess of; create bad feeling。 （本文由沪江原创，转载请注明出处） 点击进入口译笔译备考小组＞＞ 查看更多【翻译笔记】系列＞＞

【翻译笔记】《围城》英译选句 - “体无完肤”
处理就可以了。如： 被打得体无完肤 be beaten black and blue 又如《围城》中的“被咬得‘体无完肤’” was bitten till there wasn’t one piece of skin left whole ②比喻论点被彻底驳倒或文章被大量删改。此时我们常用be thoroughly refuted or exposed; be criticized [w]scathingly[/w]; be torn to pieces（or shreds）来表达。如： 这种谬论早翻译关键词：体无完肤，指无余力 译已被批得体无完肤。 This [w]fallacy[/w] has long since been torn to shreds. 指无余力 “指无余力”即“手指没有剩余的力量；手指已经软弱无力”，所以译文为fingers went limp很贴切。在这个词语的处理上，我们不易将“余力（surplus energy / strength / vigour）”直译出来，如果将原文译为fingers have no surplus energy读起来不符合英语表达的习惯。直译的用法可以这样用： 没有余力顾及此事 have no energy left to attend to the matter 点击进入口译笔译备考小组＞＞ （本文由沪江原创，转载请注明出处） 查看更多【翻译笔记】系列＞＞
