George started his new job with King Brothers only a month ago and he wants to invite his boss, the sales manager to dinner. 2. I got some bad news today. The store with which I work is laying off stuff. I'm worried that they are going to let me go. 3. You are not supposed to see Gary tonight. He plans to finish his financial report this week and he is too busy for parties these days. 4. I hope our first supply will induce your customers to place regular orders in the future. And we both can make big profits. 5. These books are two weeks overdue. But luckily for me, there's a moratorium this week on fines. They are trying to encourage returns. 6. May is a time for green grass, picnics, and unfortunately, examinations. In the United States, high school students take their final examinations at the end of every school year. 7. China is now the third largest producer of films in the world. However, most of the revenue came from a handful of the movies produced. 8. Let me explain why I questioned the feasibility of the project. We don't appear to have enough time. If we were to push our people, the quality of the product becomes questionable. 9. While some species of whales are nearing extinction, many countries refuse to accept even a partial ban on whale hunting. 10. In 1950, New York City was the only city with a population of ten million. Now, in 2010, worldwide we have 38 cities with populations of over ten million people. 【解析】 statements总体难度不高，但是对于lay off，induce，overdue，moratorium，revenue，feasibility等词还是需要同学们平时的多多积累。另外，做题过程中还要注意对数字的敏感度，如statement 10就出现了包括年份、人口数量、城市数量在内的多个数字，千万不要一定到数字就犯晕。其实做statement还有一个要点是听出一些包含转折、递进、让步等含义的信号词，本次的statement中出现了不少but，however，while，利用这些关键词准确把握句意是做题的关键。

(近年来的研究表明，左撇子儿童更有可能遇到学习困难，他们在智商测试中的得分也更低。），关键词就是studies recent years； 主要考点包括： 1. 主旨大意把握。例如，新闻1的Question 1: What does the news report say about United Airlines?（关于美联航空，新闻报道了什么？） 以及短文2的Question 20：What do critics think of Mexican Oil Company's bonus policy? （批评家们如何看待墨西哥石油公司的福利政策。） 2.细节定位。 比如，对话1的Question 9: What does the woman say has caused the shrinking of ducks' habitats in Australia? (关于澳洲鸭子栖息地的减少，这位女士说了什么？）；又如，新闻2的Question 3: What do we learn about the mother elephant Samba? （关于象妈妈Samba, 我们知道什么）； 3. 考察原因。例如，长对话1Question 10：Why is there no commercial farming of ducks and geese in western countries? （为什么西方国家没有鸭和鹅的商业养殖？）；又如短文3的Question 22：Why are some people criticizing the British government? （为什么有些人在批评英国政府？）。 4. 问答原则。比如，对话1的Q9，男人问到：But can anyone be sure if the decline is really caused by the hunting or by climate change?(但是，有人能确定这种下降真的是由狩猎还是由气候变化造成的吗？) 女人接着回答：It's caused by both in fact.（事实上，是由这两种因素共同作用的。） 5. 强调。比如短文1的Q17：What does the passage suggest parents do to help their children?（这篇文章建议家长如何帮助自己的小孩？）对应的答案And for primary school children at least somewhere near you. So you can answer questions and offer encouragement（对于小学生，至少保证他们在你附近的某个地方。所以你可以及时回答问题并给予鼓励）其中at least强调了家长至少应该做到的一点。
